Müggelspree between Alt-Köpenick and Müggelsee

While you drive past Köpenick Town Hall you are simultaneously covering the last metres before the Dahme flows into the Spree.
After its confluence, the water of the Dahme follows the Stadtspree westwards. Our route runs eastwards into the Müggelspree and therefore upstream from here (see Fig. 24, white arrows). First we pass under the Dammbrücke, then the Katzengraben footbridge and the Salvador Allende Bridge. During foundation work for the construction of this bridge a major high-voltage line was destroyed in February 2019. As a result, almost 500.000 Berliners experienced a total blackout of the power supply for two days.

On the way towards Müggelsee the river bathing spot „Kameruner“ lies on the left – an FKK beach. Afterwards the Berlin Water Sports Centre with boat hire, slipway and numerous berths is clearly visible. About 1 km further on the river bathing spot „Teppich“ and the „Spreearche" – a floating restaurant – can be seen on the right.

Just before entering the Müggelsee the former brewery „Berliner Bürgerbräu" stands on the left. It has not been in operation since mid-2009 (brand rights were sold to Schultheiss). The former brewery taproom still operates today as a restaurant (Restaurant Bräustübl).
The transition area between the Müggelspree and the Müggelsee is flanked on the left by restaurants, a small park and landing stages for excursion boats. At the narrow point, immediately before you reach the Müggelsee, is the Friedrichshagen Spree tunnel. It was opened in 1927; the tunnel invert lies 8,40 m below the water surface. Excursionists, for example coming from Friedrichshagen S‑bahn station, can here pass under the Müggelspree to the southern shore and then find themselves on the circular path around the Müggelsee.
The shore path on the south side of the Müggelsee is part of the EuroVelo R1 and is excellently developed for both cyclists and pedestrians. It runs past the restaurant „Rübezahl" (with boat hire) and the „Hotel Müggelsee".
